“Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of life.  Whoever comes to me will never be hungry,
and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.' ”
(John 6:35)

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat,
and I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink...
Whatever you did for the least of these brothers of mine,
you did for me.” (Matthew 25:35,40)

Our Mission:

To share God's love by providing the gift of bread baked in their own homes by handicapped persons, primarily through existing outreach programs of Churches and other charitable organizations.

It's Every Bit As Simple As It Sounds -- We Bake Bread and Give It Away!

How We Do It

Individuals and organizations donate money to us.

We use the donations to buy the flour, grains, eggs, milk and other ingredients used to bake delicious specialty breads.

This home-baked bread is given to people in the Birmingham area directly or through existing outreach programs.

Why?

First, bread has meaning on many levels:

from the Old Testament story of God’s providing manna to Moses and the Jews on their 40-year journey to the promised land,

to Jesus declaring that He is the Bread of Life,

to those of us who, when we smell and taste home-baked bread, remember a warm and loving kitchen from our childhood,

to the meaning bread has to a hungry man,

and on to the most important meaning that bread has for me -- the use of bread in the Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist, as Christ Himself taught us at the Last Supper and asked us to continue in remembrance of Him.

Second, the gift of love and grace given to each of us by Jesus Christ was and is given freely.  Bakers On Wheels gives our gift of bread freely, and we hope that, in addition to satisfying a physical hunger, it may also feed the spirit.
